The Timber and Wood Workers Union (T.W.U.), an innovative union of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (T.U.C.), has announced a strategic partnership with Star Assurance Company Limited, a leader in Ghana’s insurance industry to introduce the TWU Welfare Scheme. This landmark initiative aims to provide comprehensive welfare support to members of the Union across the country.

The T.W.U. Welfare Scheme was conceived following a proposal from the Executive Board of the T.W.U., which sought to establish a safety net for its members, who are often exposed to significant occupational hazards. Underwritten by Star Assurance, this innovative scheme promises to deliver monetary compensation to Union members in the event of injuries, permanent disability, or death incurred while on duty.

The scheme is derived from the Star Personal Guard (S.P.G.), an innovative and customer-centered insurance product co-developed by Star Assurance and Assure Advisors Insurance Brokers Ltd. The T.W.U. Welfare Scheme is specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of T.W.U. members, offering them financial protection and peace of mind as they go about their demanding and often dangerous work.

The Timber and Wood Workers Union is one of the twenty-three National Unions affiliated with the Ghana Trades Union Congress. This new partnership underscores the Union's commitment to enhancing the welfare of its members, ensuring they have a reliable safety net in place.

The launch of the T.W.U. Welfare Scheme marks a significant milestone in the journey of Star Assurance, AssureAdvisors and the Timber and Wood Workers Union. It reflects their shared commitment to protecting the livelihoods of workers who contribute to the country’s economic development through their craftsmanship in the timber and wood industry.

The partnership not only reinforces Star Assurance’s position as a leading innovator in the insurance sector but also demonstrates the Union’s proactive approach to securing the welfare of its members. As the scheme rolls out, it is expected to provide much-needed financial security and support to T.W.U. members, ensuring they can perform their duties with greater confidence and assurance.
