All you need to know for a quick & easy claim processing

Introduction

Star Assurance claims unit handles both motor and non-motor claims.  Our Company, being a service industry attaches great importance to offering excellent customer satisfaction to our valued clients.

Motor Claims Procedures are as follows;
  • Report to the police.
  • Contact Star Assurance and fill the specific claim form.
  • Do not settle or negotiate to settle, admit or repudiate any claim without our consent.
  • Forward all relevant documentary evidence in respect of the loss.
  • Forward all claims, writs of summons or letters from third parties to us unanswered.
Who is entitled to make a claim?
  • The insured (policy holder)
  • The third party whose property has been damaged by our insured's vehicle
  • The injured victim
  • Administrators of a deceased estate
  • Parents/guardians in the case of minor
Period within which to make a claim
  • Injury/death - up to three years from the date of the accident.
  • Damage - up to six years from the date of the accident.
Some circumstances under which your motor claims will be repudiated
  • If your vehicle was driven without your consent, order or permission.
  • When an unlicensed driver was driving
  • When the claim is statute barred i.e claims not submitted within the three (3) or six (6) years period.
  • Where there was a change of ownership on the vehicle without reference to us.
  • Using the vehicle whilst the driver was drunk.
  • Using the vehicle for unauthorized purposes.

OWN DAMAGE
  • A claim letter
  • Estimate of the repair cost
  • Photographs of the vehicle in its damaged state
  • Police Report (where necessary as well as Theft Claims)
  • Fire Report (For Fire Losses)
THIRD PARTY PROPERTY DAMAGE (TPPD) CLAIM
  • A claim letter
  • The relevant police report (interim or final) for determination of liability.
  • Estimates of the repair cost Page 3 of 15
  • A valuation report if the property damaged was a building/property
INJURY CLAIM
  • A claim letter
  • Relevant Police Report (Interim & Final) for determination of liability.
  • Final Medical Report
  • Duly Signed Statutory Declaration: An Affidavit of Instruction (if a Solicitor is pursuing the claim on behalf of the claimant, except in cases where a writ has been issued). Affidavit (if self-claimants)
  • Two (2) passport-size photographs of the injured, endorsed by the attending Medical Officer.
  • In the case of a minor, two (2) passport-size photographs of the parent/guardian or the Next friend making the claim should be submitted.
  • Medical Receipts, if any.
DEATH CLAIM
  • A Claim Letter from the Administrator(s) of the deceased’s estate
  • Relevant Police Report (Interim & Final) for determination of liability.
  • Post Mortem and Burial Certificate OR Death Certificate (v) Letters of Administration (if the deceased was an adult)
  • Two (2) passport-size photographs each of the administrator(s).
  • Duly Signed Statutory Declaration: An Affidavit of Instruction (if a Solicitor is pursuing the claim on behalf of the claimant, except in cases where a writ has been issued). Affidavit (if self-claimants i.e. the Administrators
Non-Motor Claims

Non-motor insurance comprise of several lines example public liability, professional indemnity, personal accident etc.  Each non-motor insurance​claim has its own specific claims procedure and conditions which are explained in detail by our competent and well trained claims staff whenever a claim is made.​​

Generally, when an accident occurs, the insured (policyholder) should comply with the follwing:

  • Report the incident to the police or fire service (in case of fire).
  • IMMEDIATELY contact Star Assurance and complete the specific claim form.
  • Take all reasonable steps to protect the damaged site/property for inspection by Star Assurance.
  • Do not settle or negotiate to settle, admit or repudiate any claim without our consent.
  • Forward all relevant documentary evidence in respect of the loss to us.
  • Forward all claims, writs of summons or letters from third parties to us unanswered.
Important

In all cases, a discharge form which states the agreed quantum (amount) will be issued by the insurance company to the insured or claimant for execution and forwarded back to enable us process the cheque.
